DIY Holiday Wine Glasses

These glasses were easy and very inexpensive to make and I am happy with the results.  I do want to try to make some bridal themed glasses as well in the near future.

$2.99 Lookbook| Dresses Edition

Recently I discovered a store where everything costs $2.99 or less. They sell clothing, shoes, handbags, swimsuits, jewelry, etc.  I was skeptical at first but  I was surprised to see that they had a lot of cute clothing some of which were really good quality material.

I decided to do a Lookbook series based on outfits I've bought from this store. Since I shop there quite often now. I plan to do a monthly Lookbook based on clothing I buy in these stores. Here is my first episode in my $2.99 series.

DIY Purple Rain Skirt

Prince has been one of my favorite artists since I was a little girl. I was intrigued by a picture of a skirt I saw online, it reminded me of a poodle skirt, yet it contained Prince's logo from the Purple Rain movie.

I knew that I had to re-create this skirt for myself and that's exactly what i did!  This skirt was pretty quick and simple, all I had to do was cut out a circle skirt, attach a waistband and insert an elastic band. For the skirt applique I found the Purple Rain film poster online, enlarged the photo,  add some purple raindrops, and erase the background. Once I was satisfied with the design I printed it out, cut out the shapes, and traced it onto the felt. From there I attached the pieces to the skirt with glue and I was done!

Here's the link to the PDF file I used to create the Purple Rain applique.

I'm extremely happy with the final product, I think I might create another one completely with fleece fabric.

DIY Doggy Tshirt Transformation

I have so many old T-shirts that are too adorable to part with. I have decided to use these shirts and transform them into other useful pieces. One form of transformation is making these shirts into a smaller size suitable to fit my miniature poodle, Petey.  He's 18 lbs and a lot of the cute shirts available for dogs are for smaller breeds or female dogs.

This inspired me to figure out a way to increase and improve my dog's wardrobe selection in an inexpensive yet creative way.

It's pretty quick and easy and Petey enjoys modeling his new clothes.

Eclectic Electric Lady

You shock it, shake it, baby.
Electric Lady, you're a star.
You've got a classic kinda crazy,
but you know just who you are.
                                                                           Janelle Monáe

I first caught a glimpse of Janelle Monáe briefly on an episode of P. Diddy's "Making the Band", when the aspiring group members for Diddy's upcoming band had to cater to the unknown star and her band.  Immediately I was drawn to her appearance: her natural hair and black and white tuxedo.

I purchased a ticket to see her perform at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California in early 2014. Of course, me being the die hard fan I am I had to go in style; in black and white. I decided to wear her latest look: a short sleeve white shirt, black suspenders, black leather  fingerless gloves, white pants accented with multiple chains cascading down one leg,  and black boots.  All that was missing was the black and white varsity jacket she wears with this ensemble. I couldn't afford to buy one at the time,  luckily I don't believe in throwing clothes away anymore, so I had pieces of clothing lying around. Two of these pieces were a leather vest and large white sweatshirt, just the items I would need to make a black and white jacket. The assembly was rather easy since all that needed to be done was the removal of  the sleeves from the sweatshirt and sew them onto the leather vest. A very quick and painless task that was done in minutes. Thus I was all set to go see my favorite artist in full attire.

After several encore performances the concert was done all too soon and the lights went up. As people began to head for the exits many were shocked to see how accurate my outfit was to what she was wearing that night. (Yes I had done my research). I even posted the picture on my Instagram and got a surprising "Like" by Ms. Monáe herself.

Even if it makes others uncomfortable, I will love who I am.
